F.A.Q

Who are Mamas on Waves retreats for?

Mamas on Waves is for mums who want to surf, travel, try something new and meet other women — while bringing their children along.

You can come as a solo mum, with a friend, or simply on your own. You don't need to know anyone before you arrive.

Do I need to be an experienced surfer?

Not necessarily. Our retreats are designed for different levels, from beginners to more experienced surfers. We keep the groups small so we can adapt the coaching to each mum.

What happens to my child while I surf?

Childcare is organised around the surf sessions, so you can get in the water without worrying about your little one.

Kids will always come to the beach with us so while we surf they play and we are close by to them.

What age can my child be?

Each retreat can be slightly different depending on the location and childcare setup. Check the specific retreat page for the recommended age range or get in touch with us if you're unsure. Ussualy from 3 to 7 years old. Baby welcome but with an extra to pay in order to have a specific babysitter just for them.

Can I bring more than one child?

Some retreats can accommodate more than one child, depending on the accommodation . Contact us before booking and we'll see what we can arrange. Extra to pay

Do I have to come alone?

Not at all. You can come with a friend or another mum you know.

But many women come on their own — and that's actually one of the best parts. You arrive not knowing anyone and leave with new friends.

Will I have time for myself?

Yes. That's one of the reasons we created Mamas on Waves.

The retreat is structured so you can enjoy your surf sessions and other activities without having to organise everything around your child all the time.

And there is also plenty of time to simply be together.  Babysitting only while we have our activities but during the day we are togheter and we share and help each other the way we can.
You can go for a relax shower while we look for your kids, that's the idea of "village" we want to create during the week retreat.

Will my child enjoy it too?

That's the idea.

We choose places where kids can be part of the experience — playing, exploring, meeting other children and spending time by the ocean.

This isn't a retreat where mums have fun and kids are simply “looked after”. We want the whole family to have a good time. Surf lesson are not for kids but on site you can book a surf lesson for him or just rent a board and play in the water with your kid

How big are the groups?

We keep the groups small. This allows us to create a more personal experience, get to know each other and make sure there is enough flexibility for both mums and kids.

What if my child doesn't want to stay with the babysitter?

That's completely normal.

Children need time to get comfortable with new people and new places. We don't expect them to immediately run off happily with a stranger.

We'll take things gradually and adapt where possible. You will always know what's happening and who is with your child. That's why usually our babysitter stay with us during the whole week as part of the group, in order to get confidence with kids and mamas. She's one of us.

Can I pay in instalments?

Payment options depend on the retreat. Can be ussualy pay in 3 times

Can I join with my friend or sister if I don't have kids?

Of course.
Mamas on Waves is created around mums, but you don't have to be a mum to join. If you want to share the experience with your sister, friend or someone special, you're welcome to come together.

Just keep in mind that the retreat is designed primarily for mums and kids, so the experience will always have that kids atmosphere.

Still have a question?

We're happy to help.

If you're wondering whether a retreat is right for you or your child, just send us a message. We'd rather answer your questions before you book than have you arrive with doubts.
